- Why should I have my pet professionally groomed?
While many pet owners take on the responsibility of grooming their pets themselves, there are a few good reasons to have the job done by a professional groomer:
They have the right tools.
Professional groomers have all the necessary tools for a perfect grooming job, including different types of clippers and an adjustable grooming table. They also have access to a wide variety of shampoos for cats and dogs with skin irritations, allergies, fleas and ticks, or for dogs that have been sprayed by a skunk.
They have lots of experience handling dogs.
Professional groomers know how to handle and groom your pet without causing injury. They have experience with animals with behavioral issues, seniors, and those that require all manner of special handling.

The duration of a grooming session depends on the size of the animal, its hair length, and type of coat it has. That said, most grooming sessions at Hillcrest take between two and three hours.
- How much does grooming cost?
The cost of grooming depends mostly on the breed, hair length, and type of coat the dog or cat has, as well as any behavioral issues. All of these factors impact the length of time the grooming session will take. For a better idea of cost, please contact us for an estimate.
- How do your groomers handle fearful or aggressive animals?
Our groomers have a lot of experience handling stressed, anxious or aggressive animals. In cases where any animal is extremely afraid or aggressive, we may recommend sedation during the grooming process. However, in most cases, we can manage the animal with the following steps:
• A quiet, peaceful environment
• Offering treats
• Frequent breaks
• Opening a window or playing music
• Asking a dog to do something it knows (like 'sit' or 'shake')
